Wildlife

With a bit of patience (and maybe some luck too!), you can spot some of Scotland’s amazing wildlife in our forest and mountain habitats. From summer visitors including majestic Ospreys, to the elusive Capercaillie, Pine Marten, Deer, and characterful Red Squirrels there's a lot to see. In the colder months there are Mountain Hares and Ptarmigan in their white winter camouflage to see too. You can even see free-ranging Reindeer living on the Cairngorm mountains all year round.

Don’t forget your binoculars!

If you enjoy seeing wildlife, Aonach and the Highlands of Scotland are fantastic places to visit. You don’t have to go far and you can see birds and red squirrels from the house. If you’re lucky you might hear an owl or spot a hare, deer or even a pine marten in the garden.

Just a short drive or cycle ride away is the RSPB Insh Marshes reserve, one of the most important wetland areas in Europe, supporting populations of breeding waders including curlew, lapwing, redshank and snipe.

If you fancy seeing some rare Scottish Wildcats, or perhaps exotic non-native animals, the Highland Wildlife Park is a 105-hectare safari park and zoo just a short drive away.
